PROCESSES OF EMANCIPATION AND ASSIMILATION OF HUNGARIAN JEWRY. Demonstration of the processes and their consequences based on history of Martians group.

Celem pracy jest omówienie procesów emancypacji i asymilacji Żydów na Węgrzech, mających miejsce między XVIII a XX wiekiem oraz analiza ich bezpośrednich i pośrednich konsekwencji. Przybliżona zostanie historia imigracji Izraelitów, obowiązujące restrykcje prawne oraz cechy ich społeczności, które zadecydowały o przeprowadzeniu reform. Następnie opisane zostaną kolejne ustawy emancypacyjne, ich wpływ na strukturę zatrudnienia oraz liczebność ludności żydowskiej w szkołach średnich i na uniwersytetach. Szczególnej analizie poddane zostaną działania asymilacyjne inicjowane zarówno przez monarchę, jak i Izraelitów. Dalszej części pracy przedstawiona zostanie grupa Marsjan, oraz biografie rodzin jej członków, w celu pokazania skali procesów oraz udowodnienia, iż stanowiły one warunek rozwinięcia się talentów naukowców.

The paper demonstrates the processes of emancipation and assimilation of Hungarian Jewry which occurred between 18th and 20th centuries, and analyses their immediate and indirect consequences. It presents the history of Jewish immigration to the country, discriminatory laws applied against Jews and the structures of their society, which urged future reforms. Subsequently, the thesis enumerates the rights granted to the minority, demonstrating their influence on Jewish occupational structure and high schools and universities attendance. Various paths towards assimilation, initiated both by Jews and monarch is thoroughly analysed. Finally, the paper introduces the group scientists called Martians, and biographies of its members, in order to prove the scale of the processes and their impact on development of the figures.
