Diary as a possible model of subjectivity in the corporeal and existential perspective

Dotychczas na gruncie różnych nauk humanistycznych powstawała literatura na temat dziennika osobistego, poświęcona zarówno konkretnym autorom, jak samemu zjawisku, lecz nie ukazała się, przynajmniej w polskojęzycznym piśmiennictwie, filozoficzna analiza dziennika. Celem pracy jest próba zbadania w perspektywie cielesnej i egzystencjalnej, jaki model podmiotowości jest implikowany przez dziennik osobisty. Historyczny przegląd praktyk diarystycznych wykazuje, że prowadzenie dzienników osobistych zawsze wynikało z potrzeby przepracowywania przez diarystę własnej osobowości. W oparciu o badania Aleksandra Mileckiego, Michała Głowińskiego i Philippe’a Lejeune’a nakreślona zostaje struktura formy dziennika. Ontologiczną analizę struktury dziennika osobistego wytyczają koncepcja projektu egzystencjalnego Jean-Paula Sartre’a oraz materialistyczna teoria ciał Gillesa Deleuze’a. Te dwie perspektywy łączy pojęcie pragnienia w wykładni Alexandre’a Kojéve’a. Pojęcia powtórzenia i chwili Sörena Kierkegaarda uzupełniają ideę projektu egzystencjalnego w ujęciu czasowości dziennika, natomiast idee związane z ciałem i pismem Jean-Luka Nancy’ego pokazują prowadzenie dziennika pod kątem praktyki cielesnej. W ten sposób skonstruowana teoria dziennika jest przedstawiona na konkretnym przykładzie Dziennika 1954 Leopolda Tyrmanda.

So far in different fields of humanities there exists literature on the personal diary devoted to both specific authors and the phenomenon itself, but philosophical analysis on the diary, at least in Polish-language literature, did not appear. The aim of this study is to investigate in the corporeal and the existential perspective, what model of subjectivity is implied by the personal diary. Historical overview of diaristic practices shows that keeping personal diaries is always driven by the need of working through diarist’s own personality. Basing on the researches of Aleksander Milecki, Michał Głowiński and Philippe Lejeune the structure of form of diary is outlined. Ontological analysis of the structure of the personal diary delineates the concept of existential project of Jean-Paul Sartre and materialistic theory of the bodies of Gilles Deleuze. These two perspectives are connected by the concept of desire in the explanation of Alexandre Kojève. The concepts of the repetition and the moment of Sören Kierkegaard complement the existential project idea in terms of temporality of the diary, and the ideas connected with the body and the writing of Jean-Luc Nancy demonstrate keeping a diary in terms of bodily practices. In this way constructed theory of diary is illustrated in the specific example of Leopold Tyrmand’s Diary 54.
