Between a curse and a promise: women’s personage in the Romance of Eneas, XII century anonymous text

Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej było przedstawienie i analiza postaci kobiecych w Powieści o Eneaszu, tekście anonimowym z XII- go wieku. Wzięliśmy pod uwagę, w szczególności, dwie główne bohaterki: Dydonę – femme fatale oraz Lawinię – kobietę obietnicy. Zastosowana metoda badawcza to metoda filologiczna polegająca na interpretacji i analizie tekstu. Prowadzone badania miały ukazać postawę każdej z kobiet oraz ich relację z jednym z głównych bohaterów – Eneaszem, Trojańczykiem. W miarę prowadzonej analizy zaobserwowaliśmy cierpienia królowej Kartaginy – Dydony oraz upadek jej królestwa, szczęśliwą miłość i zawarcie związku małżeńskiego Eneasza z Lawinią oraz przemianę Trojańczyka. Wszystkie postawione tezy na początku tej pracy i znalazły odpowiedź w badaniach.

The objective of this master’s thesis was to present and to analyse the women’s personages in the Romance of Eneas, XII century anonymous text. Particularly, we took into consideration two mains heroines: Didon – femme fatale and Lavine – woman of promise. Our scientific method was a philological method which consist in interpretation and analysis of the text. The objective of this research were to show the attitudes of each woman and their relations with another main character – Eneas. During this scientific research we observed the Didon’s pain and suffering and the collapse of her kingdom, happy love and Lavine’s and Eneas’s marriage and the evolution of the last one. All issues have been explained and thesis have been confirmed.

Notre mémoire de maîtrise avait pour but de présnter et analyser les personnages féminins dans le Roman d’Enéas, texte anonyme de XIIe siècle. Nous avons pris en considération les deux héroïnes principales : Didon – la femme fatale et Lavine – la femme de la promesse. La méthode de travail que nous avons utilisé était avant tout la méthode philologique qui impliquait l’analyse et l’interprétation du texte. Nous voulions montrer l’attitude de chaque femme et leurs relations avec le protagoniste principal de ce roman – Enéas, le Troyen. Au fur et à mesure de cette analyse, nous avons vu les souffrances de la reine de Carthage – Didon et la chute de son royaume, l’amour heureux et le mariage d’Enéas et de Lavine et l’évolution du Troyen. Nous avons réussi à résoudre tous les problèmes et les thèses posées au début de ce travail.
