Doctor Faustus Christophera Marlowe'a oraz jego adaptacje filmowe w reżyserii Richarda Burtona i Jana Svankmajera.

W niniejszej pracy autorka omawia sztukę Doctor Faustus Christophera Marlowe'a oraz jej dwie adaptacje filmowe. Pierwszą nakręconą przez angielskiego aktora i reżysera Richarda Burtona, a drugą przez czeskiego animatora i reżysera Jana Svankmajera. Głównym celem owej pracy jest analiza dwóch bardzo różnych adaptacji filmowych sztuki Marlowe'a, które składają się na dwie różnorodne interpretacje tej klasycznej historii. Pierwszy rozdział pracy zawiera informacje wprowadzające na temat Christophera Marlowe'a, początków sztuki, a także krótką analizę fabuły jak i wybranych postaci. Pozostałe rozdziały dotyczą filmów Richarda Burtona oraz Jana Svankmajera, które stanowią przykład odpowiednio wiernej i luźnej adaptacji.Pojawi się również opis najistotniejszych faktów na temat tych adaptacji, ich klasyfikacja oraz analiza fabuły i kluczowych postaci.

In this thesis the author discusses a play Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe and its two film adaptations. The first one is by an English actor and director Richard Burton and the second one by a Czech animator and director Jan Svankmajer. The main aim of this paper is to analyze two very different film versions of Marlowe’s play that constitute two diverse modern interpretations of the classic story. The first chapter of this thesis includes introductory information about Christopher Marlowe and the origins of the play, as well as a short analysis of the plot and chosen characters. The other chapters deal with Richard Burton’s and Jan Svankmajer’s films, which represent a faithful and loose adaptation respectively. There is also going to be a description of the most important facts about these adaptations, their classification and an analysis of the plot and the key characters.
