Weasel's distribution and habitat preferences in Poland and in the world

Łasica (Mustela nivalis) to gatunek pospolicie występujący w rejonie holarktycznym. Pomimo tego, wiedza na temat jej zwyczajów i preferencji siedliskowych jest skąpa. Praca licencjacka ma na celu określenie preferencji siedliskowych łasicy w granicach zasięgu jej występowania. Pomimo dużej plastyczności siedliskowej, łasica preferuje tereny wilgotne i łąkowe. Najczęściej występuje w obszarach leśnych, ponieważ przegrywa konkurencję z gatunkiem o podobnych preferencjach – gronostajem (Mustela erminea). Najważniejsze czynniki, wpływające na dobór siedliska, to obecność pokarmu, możliwość ukrycia się przed potencjalnymi drapieżnikami i obecność gronostaja.

Weasel (Mustela nivalis) is a common species in a holarctic region. In spite of that, weasel is not well known. The goal of this paper is to define its habitat preferences in its extent. Weasel can survive in many types of habitat, but it prefers meadows and humid areas. It is common in forests because of the pressure of another species with similar preferences – a stoat (Mustela erminea). Habitat preferences depend on food sources, hiding places possibility and presence of stoat.
