Therapy with bisexual client : selected issues

Przedstawiony tekst stanowi przegląd najważniejszych problemów mogących pojawić się w terapii z klientami biseksualnymi. Zostały one wyodrębnione i charakteryzowane na podstawie szczegółowej analizy dostępnej literatury przedmiotu. W pierwszej kolejności opisano zmiany w obrębie obowiązujących naukowych modeli seksualności, które umożliwiły rzetelne studia nad fenomenem biseksualności. Na tym tle przedstawiono zagadnienia zdrowia psychicznego osób biseksualnych oraz stresu mniejszościowego wraz z kształtującymi je czynnikami o charakterze społecznym i kulturowym. Ważną część artykułu stanowią również rozważania dotyczące statusu tożsamości biseksualnej oraz prezentacja jej ujęć w kontekście rozwojowym.

The following text provides an overview of the most important problems which may arise in therapy with bisexual clients. They have been characterized on the basis of a detailed analysis of the available literature. Firstly, the authors describe the changes in the existing scientific models of sexuality, which resulted in reliable studies on the phenomenon of bisexuality. On this background the authors present mental health issues and minority stress considering bisexual client, along with the social and cultural factors influencing the above mentioned. An important part of the article are also considerations regarding the status of bisexual identity and its development.
