Celem tej pracy jest zbadanie slash fan fiction jako społecznego fenomenu. Pierwszy rozdział skupia się na historii i rozwoju fan fiction, a także jednego z jego gatunków – slashu. Slash fan fiction często definiuje się jako produktywny rodzaj twórczości fanowskiej subwersywnie przemieniającej bohaterów kultury popularnej w queerowe postaci. Uznaje się, że słowo „slash” pochodzi od samego znaku „/”, umieszczanego pomiędzy imiona dwóch bohaterów, których losy opisuje opowiadanie. Gatunek ten jest nazywany romantyczną pornografią i krytyką tradycyjnej męskości, ponieważ wielokrotnie stereotypowo kobiece cechy zostają przeniesione na męskie postaci. Zdecydowaną większość tego typu dzieł piszą kobiety, wykorzystujące je do zgłębienia swoich emocji i przyjemności odmawianych im przez lata. W związku z tym slashowe fandomy wielokrotnie nazywane są queerową przestrzenią, która spełnia kobiece potrzeby i stawia opór patriarchalnym wizjom płci i seksualności.

The purpose of the thesis is to discuss characteristics of slash fan fiction as a social phenomenon. The first chapter focuses on the history and development of fan fiction and one of its subgenre – slash. Slash fan fiction is frequently described as a productive type of fan fiction in which male popular media characters are subversively made into queer subjects. The word slash is believed to originate from the actual „/” that is placed between two characters names the story is about. It has been characterized as romantic pornography and as a critique of traditional masculinities, because a number of times stereotypical "feminine" traits are extended onto the male characters. The predominate writer of that kind of stories are women, who use them to explore emotions and pleasures denied them in the past. Because of that slash fandom is often characterized as a queer space that fulfills women’s needs and functions as resistance to patriarchal concepts of gender and sexuality.
