The problem of aestheticization in Henryk Sienkiewicz’s novel "Without dogma".

Niniejsza praca poświęcona jest zagadnieniu estetyzacji w powieści Henryka Sienkiewicza "Bez dogmatu", wydanej po raz pierwszy w 1891 roku. Jej pierwszy rozdział podejmuje kwestię problematyzacji zjawiska estetyzacji. Szczególny nacisk został położony na wieloaspektowość fenomenu estetyzacji oraz różnorodność znaczeniową pojęcia "estetyczny". Trzon podstawy naukowej tej części pracy stanowią artykuły teoretyczne Wolfganga Welscha. Rozdział zawiera także wstępną diagnozę zjawiska estetyzacji w powieści Sienkiewicza.Drugi rozdział porusza problemy wyznaczone przez poetykę powieści. Omawia zagadnienie estetyzacji egzystencji poprzez tekst oraz ze względu na konkretne doświadczenia lekturowe, a także podnosi kwestię wiarygodności zapisu kronikarskiego na podstawie powieści "Bez dogmatu" Henryka Sienkiewicza w oparciu o teksty teoretyczne analizujące stosunek zależności pomiędzy literaturą a życiem.W ostatnim rozdziale omówione zostały związki głównego bohatera "Bez dogmatu" z dziewiętnastowiecznymi niestandardowymi modelami egzystencji: dandyzmem i dekadentyzmem. Analizuje on również relacje zachodzące pomiędzy opowiedzeniem się za konkretnymi wartościami, mającymi wyznaczyć kierunek egzystencji jednostki, a estetyzacją jej egzystencji. Bazę dla badań stanowią teksty krytycznoliterackie poświęcone powieści "Bez dogmatu" oraz rozważania filozoficzne dotyczące estetyzacji życia w ujęciu Sørena Kierkegaarda oraz Agaty Bielik-Robson.

This thesis has been dedicated to the question of aestheticization in the Henryk Sienkiewicz’s novel "Without dogma", first published in 1891.The first chapter delineates the issue of problematization of the phenomenon of aestheticization. This part of the thesis has been focused on the multifacetedness of the fact and the semantic ambiguity of the term "aesthetic". The core of its academic base has been formed by the theoretical articles by Wolfgand Welsch. The chapter also includes an initial diagnosis of the aestheticization problem in the Sienkiewicz’s novel.The second chapter depicts the issues demarcated by the novel’s poetics. It discusses questions of the aestheticization of existence, through a text and based on the grounds of former reading experience, and raises the question of reliability of annalistic record in case of Henryk Sienkiewicz’s novel "Without dogma" on the basis of theoretical texts that analyse the interplay between literature and life.In the last chapter, there have been described the links between the "Without dogma" main protagonist and nineteenth-century avant-garde existencial models: dandyism and decadence. It also discusses the relation between espousing specific values, that are supposed to give direction to an individual existence, and the aestheticization of one’s existence. The basis of the research has been founded on critical analyses of the "Without dogma" novel and philosophical reflection on the problem of aestheticization of life by Søren Kierkegaard and Agata Bielik-Robson.
