Zakres tematyczny pracy, stanowi instytucja Prezydenta Rzeczypospolitej ukazana na tle porównawczym kolejnych polskich konstytucji. W pracy przedstawiona została ewolucja konstytucyjnego modelu prezydentury na podstawie aktów konstytucyjnych II oraz III Rzeczpospolitej. Pierwszy rozdział pracy przedstawia rys historyczny instytucji Prezydenta Rzeczypospolitej. Rozdział drugi został poświęcony problematyce przywrócenia instytucji Prezydenta. Przedstawiono pokrótce porozumienia dotyczące powyższej kwestii, wynikłe w czasie obrad „Okrągłego Stołu” oraz przesłanki przywrócenia omawianego urzędu. W trzecim rozdziale, omówiona została pozycja ustrojowa Prezydenta w świetle przepisów Małej Konstytucji z 1991 roku. W rozdziale przedstawione zostały czynniki kształtujące ustrojową rolę Prezydenta w państwie, takie jak: tryb wyboru, kompetencje oraz odpowiedzialność głowy państwa. Najwięcej uwagi praca poświęca przedstawieniu obecnej pozycji ustrojowej Prezydenta w świetle rozwiązań Konstytucji z 1997 roku. Czwarty rozdział stanowi krótkie omówienie przepisów regulujących konstytucyjną rolę głowy państwa, wraz z odniesieniem do poprzednich ustaw zasadniczych.

Main topic of the work is the institution of the President of the Republic of Poland portrayed against the comparative background of Polish constitutions. At the work it was presented the constitutional model of the President based on constitutional acts of II and III Republic. The first chapter of the work is presenting the history of the institution of Polish President. The chapter two is about issues of restoring the institution of the President. It was shown agreements about the above issue, which was born during „round-table” talks and conditions of restoring the discussed institution. In the third chapter, a political position of the President was discussed in the light of provisions of the Small Constitution from 1991. This chapter presents factors of shaping the political role of the President in the state were described, such as: the mode selection, competence and the responsibility of the head of state. The most of work attention remarks to the current political position the President in the view of the Constitution from 1997. The fourth chapter provides a brief overview of the rules governing the constitutional role of the head of state, with reference to the previous constitutions.
