Phenomenon of French comedy: the case of

Celem pracy była analiza fenomenu francuskiej komedii filmowej na podstawie przykładu adaptacji ksiązki Drugi oddech . Diabel Stróż, Philippe’a Pozzo di Borgo na film Nietykalni Ericka Toledano i Oliviera Nakache’a. W pierszej części przedstawiam zarys teorii analizy obrazu i kontrowersje związane z adaptacji dzieła literackiego na film. Wymieniam funkcje adaptacji i podejmuję temat recepcji porównawczej. W drugiej części przedstawiam historię komedii francuskiej lat 60-tych i 70-tych, oraz ostatnich dwóch dziesięcioleci, aż do roku 2014. Przedstawiam tam sposób funkcjonowania komedii francuskiej i probuję zmierzyć jej sukces narodowy i międzynarodowy bazując na danych Box-Office’u.Trzecia część zawiera analizę korpusu przykładów adaptacji, a to: kilka przykładów dialogów współtworzących charaktery postaci, przedstawiam sposób przedstawienia opowiedzianej historii, kolejność wydarzeń w filmie i w książce i analizę najbardziej interesujacych scen z książki i z filmu.

The subject of the thesis is an analysis of a French Comedy Phenomenon, basing on the example of the screen adaptation of the novel Second Souffle. Diable Gardien by Pozzo di Borgo. The background of the screen analysis theory and some controversies of an adaptation of literature are presented in the first chapter; both: the functions of a novel adaptation and the subject of comparison reception (reception comparee) are introduced there. The history of the French comedy from sixties and seventies and last twenty years, up to 2014 are presented in the second chapter. An attempt to measure its national and international success by Box-Office data is included. Untouchables as the screen adaptation by Erick Toledano and Olivier Nakache is analyzed in the third one. The chapter consist from the following core adaptation examples: some dialogues that create the personal characters, the way of the story presentation, the sequence of the novel and movie stages and the analysis of the most fabulous ones.

L’objet du présent mémoire est d’analyser le phénomène du film comique français en nous basant sur l’exemple de l’adaptation du livre Second Souffle. Diable gardien de Philippe Pozzo di Borgo dans le film Intouchables d’Erick Toledano et Olivier Nakache. Dans la première partie nous présentons le fondement théorique de l’analyse de l’image et les controverses concernant l’adaptation de l’œuvre littéraire pour en faire un film. Nous énumérons les fonctions de l’adaptation et abordons le sujet de la réception comparée. Dans la deuxième partie, nous présentons l’histoire du cinéma comique français des années soixante, soixante-dix, et des deux dernières décennies, jusqu’à l’an 2014. Nous y étudions le fonctionnement du film comique français et nous essayons de mesurer son succès national et international en se basant sur les données du Box-Office.La troisième partie comporte l’analyse du corpus d’exemples d’adaptations. En occurrence, quelques exemples de dialogues concernant : la création du caractère des personnages, le point de vue par rapport à l’histoire racontée, l’ordre des événements du film par rapport à celui du livre, l’analyse des scènes les plus impressionnantes du livre et du film, ainsi que la présentation des personnages.
