The humour and the comical theatricalness in the Decameron.

Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest analiza komizmu i teatralności komicznej w Dekameronie Giovanniego Boccaccia ze szczególnym zwróceniem uwagi na ich rolę dydaktyczną oraz ich innowacyjność na tle ówczesnej literatury. Praca jest podzielona na dwie części: w części pierwszej, teoretycznej, najpierw zostaje ogólnie przedstawiona teoria komizmu jako kategorii estetycznej i literackiej, różnica pomiędzy komizmem a humoryzmem, pochodzenie terminu ‘komizm’, zostaje też opisanych pięć kategorii komizmu Henri Bergsona oraz różne techniki i figury retoryczno-stylistyczne wykorzystane przez Boccaccia przy przedstawieniu komizmu. Następnie zostaje zanalizowany aspekt teatralności Dekameronu, przyczyny dla których stał się on fundamentem odrodzonego teatru włoskiego oraz różne techniki za pomocą których objawia się teatralność nowel. Część druga pracy to szczegółowe analizy wybranych nowel pod względem występującego tam komizmu i teatralności ze szczególnym podkreśleniem roli, jakie spełniają one w poszczególnych utworach.

The main purpose of this thesis is to analyse the humour and comical theatricalness in the Giovanni Boccaccio’s Decameron with a strong focus on their didactic role as well as their innovative character and influence on the literature. This paper is divided into two main parts. In the first one, author outlines a general theory of humour as a literal and aesthetic category, dwells on the difference between humour and ‚humorism’ as shown by the Pirandello and the origin of the term ‚humour’ itself in order to list the five categories of humour forged by Henri Bergson along with many techniques, including rhetorical devices, used by Boccaccio to bring his humorous world into existence. Furthermore, the author investigates the theatrical aspects of the Decameron trying to ascertain the reasons why it had become the fundamental piece of the reborn Italian theatre and describes various techniques through which novels reveal their theatrical nature.The latter part contains detailed analyses of humour and theatricalness in selected works, aiming particularly at their roles in respective tales.

La presente tesi ha come obiettivo l’analisi della comicità e della teatralità comica presenti nel Decameron, sottolineando il loro ruolo didattico e l’aspetto innovativo.La tesi è composta da due parti, la prima parte è teorica, divisa in due capitoli: il primo capitolo presenta il comico come una categoria estetica e letteraria, la differenza tra il comico e l’umoristico, descrive le origini del termine “comico”, cinque categorie di comicità individuate da Henri Bergson e alla fine esamina diverse tecniche, figure retoriche e stilistiche sfruttate da Boccaccio nella presentazione del comico. Il secondo capitolo riguarda l’aspetto teatrale del Decameron, dimostra motivi che lo rendono uno dei fondamenti del rinato teatro in Italia e la fonte d’ispirazione per i commediografi rinascimentali e in seguito descrive diversi fenomeni che lo rendono così teatrabile.Nella parte seconda invece, analitica, vengono analizzate in modo approfondito alcune novelle più divertenti e più esemplari del libro; l’attenzione è focalizzata contemporaneamente sia sulla comicità che teatralità dei racconti e sul loro aspetto didattico.
