In search of lost meaning. Elements of postmodern aesthetic in selected films of David Lynch

W niniejszej pracy skupiam się na analizie i interpretacji filmów Davida Lyncha, wskazując na te elementy estetyki w nich zawarte, które bez trudu pozwalają zaliczyć obrazy tego amerykańskiego reżysera do nurtu postmodernizmu. Staram się udowodnić hipotezę, mówiącą o obecności w dziełach Lyncha postmodernistycznych cech oraz elementów estetyki, o których w swoich publikacjach pisali najwięksi współcześni myśliciele i filozofowie, między innymi o teorii symulakrów oraz hiperrzeczywistości Baudrillarda, tezy o upadku wielkich narracji Lyotarda, a także koncepcji dekonstrukcji Derridy, wskazującej na istnienie wielu możliwych interpretacji zarówno tekstu, jak i języka.

In this paper I focus on analysis and interpretation of David Lynch's movies, indicating the aesthetic features that classify them as postmodernist productions. My aim is to prove that Lynch's movies contain the postmodernist qualities and aesthetic elements referred to by the greatest modern thinkers and philosophers, for example in Baudrillard's simulacrum theory, Lyotard's collapse of the narrative theory and Derrida's deconstructionism, and, consequently, that numerous interpretations of both the text and the language are justified.
