Pełnił on wiele funkcji, z których najistotniejszą dla rozważań autorki była współpraca z Accademia della Morte w Ferrarze. Pierwsza część pracy zawiera krótką charakterystykę ważnych pozycji bibliograficznych o kompozytorze, odtwarza historię Accademia della Morte w kontekście istnienia wspólnoty religijnej Confraternità della Morte e Orazione w Ferrarze oraz przytacza życiorys Giovanniego Battisty Bassaniego, uwypuklając jego powiązania ze wskazanym środowiskiem. W drugiej części pracy znajduje się analiza wybranych koncertów kościelnych twórcy ze zbioru Concerti sacri op. 11: Iesu care, Ad arma Gigantes, Alma parens Redemptoris i Tubae ferales. Autorka analizuje zarówno teksty kompozycji, jak i ich opracowanie muzyczne, wskazując powiązania muzyki z przekazem ideowym Confraternità della Morte.Teksty utworów cechuje bogactwo odniesień teologicznych i historycznych. Większość z nich posiada też duży ładunek dramatyczny i tworzy quasi-sceny z udziałem więcej niż jednego bohatera. Prawie każdy omawiany koncert zawiera w swojej treści elementy o charakterze militarnym. Warstwa muzyczna odzwierciedla afekty tekstu. Kompozytor posługuje się techniką koncertującą obfitującą w kontrasty. Szczególnie interesującą kwestią wydaje się klasyfikacja gatunkowa wymienionych kompozycji. Są to bez wątpienia koncerty kościelnie, jednak można zaobserwować w nich wpływy innych gatunków muzycznych - dialogo i kantaty.

Maria BorawskaSelected church concertos of Giovanni Battista Bassani and the ideological message of Confraternità della Morte e Orazione in Ferrara(Summary)The works of the middle Baroque period still seem to be insufficiently recognised. That is why the foregoing thesis presents analysis of selected compositions of Giovanni Battista Bassani (ca 1650-1716) – a composer little-known even in musicological environment. He fulfilled many functions, of which the most essential for the author's consideration was the co-operation with Accademia della Morte in Ferrara. The first part of the thesis contains a brief characteristic of important bibliographical items on the composer, portrays the history of Accademia della Morte in the context of Confraternità della Morte e Orazione (a religious community) existence in Ferrara and adduces Giovanni Battista Bassani's biography emphasising his links with the indicated environment. In the second part of the thesis there is an analysis of author's selected church concertos from the collection of Concerti sacri op. 11: Iesu care, Ad arma Gigantes, Alma parens Redemptoris and Tubae ferales. The author of the thesis analyses both compositions' texts and their musical setting pointing out ties between music and the ideological message of Confraternità della Morte.Texts of the concertos characterises the wealth of theological and historical references. Most of them has got a great dramatic charge and creates quasi-scenes designed for more than one character. Almost each discussed concerto contains some military elements in its contents. The musical layer reflects the affects of the texts. The composer employs concertato technique abounding with contrasts. Of particular interest seems to be the generic classification of enumerated compositions. Without question they belong to church concertos, but it is possible to observe some influences of other musical genres – dialogo and cantata.
