Konfucjanizm, wojna koreańska, walka z komunizmem - wszystkie te elementy wpłynęły na cenzurę.Powstanie Internetu pozwoliło rozszerzyć zakres działań cenzorskich o nowe media. Nasilenie zjawiska w Korei Południowej po 2008 roku ukazało, iż nie tylko przeszłość, ale przede wszystkim aktualna sytuacja społeczno-polityczna ma wpływ na cenzurę w Internecie.
