Superhero - the mythology of the present time. The comparison of the superhero in American and Japanese culture.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest porównanie postaci superbohatera oraz opowieści o nim, występujących w kulturze popularnej Japonii oraz Stanów Zjednoczonych. Superbohater został ukazany jako postać podlegająca mityzacji. Przygody superbohaterów ukazane w komiksie, filmie czy serialach poddano analizie, celem odnalezienia w nich charakterystycznych elementów mitycznych. Współczesny mit, jakim okazały się być opowieści o superbohaterach, spełnia podobne funkcje co mit tradycyjny. W opowieściach tych przechowywane są też cechy tradycyjnych kultur Japonii i USA. Można także zauważyć w nich ślady lęków obecnych w obu społeczeństwach.

The aim of this thesis is to compare the character of superhero and the tales about him which can be found in the pop culture of Japan and the USA. The superhero has been shown as a character that undergoes the process of mythisation. The superheroes' adventures shown in comics, films and TV series have been analyzed in order to find their characteristic mythic elemnts. The modern myth of superheroes fulfills similar functions to the traditional myth. The traditional characteristics of the Japanese and American cultures can be found in that tales. Also, the fears of above mentioned societies are noticable in them.
