Gonzo - Literary banditism of Hunter S. Thompson - a new style of reportage

Praca ta jest próbą charakterystyki stylu, jaki wykreował w latach sześćdziesiątych XX wieku Hunter S. Thompson. Bazując na zasadach Nowego Dziennikarstwa - użyciu scen zamiast narracji historycznej, narracji trzecio osobowa, z punktu widzenia postaci oraz podawaniu mnóstwa szczegółów z dnia codziennego – Thompson stworzył swój własny styl, nazwany gonzo. Dwoma sztandarowymi dziełami tego gatunku jest reportaż z 1970 roku Gonitwa Kentucky jest dekadencka i zdegenerowana oraz powieść Lęk i odraza w Las Vegas. W obydwu dziełach autor kontestuje idee amerykańskiego snu, kontrkulturę, której sam był członkiem oraz dokonuje krytyki społeczeństwa amerykańskiego.

This Thesis tries to characterise new writing style, created by Hunter S. Thompson in 60’s (20th century). By using rulet of New Journalism – scenes instead of hictorical narration, a description of events by subiective narration and lot of details from everyday life – Thompson created his own style – so called gonzo. The most important works are: The Kentucky Derby is Decadend And Depraved (1970) and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of American Dream (1971). In his works writer critics the idea of American Dream, the counterculture (to which he belonged to) and the american society.
