The role and objectives of mediation at school from the perspective of students' and teachers' expectations

Niniejsza praca składa się z czterech rozdziałów. W pierwszym rozdziale omówiono: rozumienie mediacji w literaturze przedmiotu, klasyfikację mediacji, pojęcie negocjacji, zasady mediacji, procedurę mediacji, funkcje i zadania mediatora, umiejętności mediatora w kontakcie ze stronami konfliktu, pojęcie konfliktu, sposoby rozwiązywania konfliktu w szkole. W rozdziale drugim omówiono: mediację w przepisach prawnych - Konwencja o Prawach Dziecka oraz prawa ucznia w szkole. Rozdział trzeci przedstawia metodologię badań własnych. W podrozdziale pierwszym przedstawiony został cel pracy. Następnie sformułowane zostały problemy badawcze. Po nich przeszłam do omówienia metod, technik i narzędzi badawczych, jakimi posłużyłam się w swojej pracy. Rozdział ten zawiera również zmienne i wskaźniki oraz opis organizacji i przebiegu badania. Rozdział czwarty poświęcony jest prezentacji i analizie wyników badań. Przedstawione zostały zadania mediacji w przepisach prawa oświatowego. Omówione zostało znaczenie mediacji z wychowawczego punktu widzenia dla stron konfliktu. Przedstawione zostały typy konfliktów, które mogą być rozwiązywane w drodze mediacji w szkole oraz oczekiwania uczniów i nauczycieli dotyczące roli mediacji w szkole. W rozdziale tym przedstawione są opinie uczniów i nauczycieli dotyczące tego, kto ich zdaniem będzie skuteczniejszym mediatorem.Moja praca badawcza pozwoliła uzyskać odpowiedź na postawiony przeze mnie cel. W związku z tym mam nadzieję, że poszerzy ona wiedzę na temat mediacji w szkole.

The following thesis consists of four chapters. In the first chapter the following issues are discussed: the interpretation of mediation in the literature on the subject, mediation classification, the notion of negotiation, mediation principles, mediation procedure, functions and tasks of a mediator, mediator’s skills in the contact with the conflicting sides, the notion of conflict, ways of dealing with conflicts at school.In the second chapter mediation in legal articles – The Convention on the Rights of the Child and the rights of a pupil at school are discussed.The third chapter presents the methodology of the author’s research. In the first subsection the aim of the thesis is presented. Then the research problems are determined. After that I discussed methods, techniques and research tools which I applied to my thesis. The chapter contains also variables and indicators as well as the description of the organization and the course of the research.The fourth chapter is devoted to the presentation and analysis of the research results. The objectives of mediation in the articles of education law are presented. The author discussed the importance of the educational aspect of mediation for the sides of a conflict. There were presented types of conflicts which can be dealt with through mediation at school as well as the expectations of students and teachers connected with the role of mediation at school. The chapter presents students’ and teachers’ opinions about who in their opinion would be a more successful mediator. My research let me attain the aim determined by the following thesis. Therefore I believe that it will broaden the knowledge about mediation at school.
