The aim of this dissertation is to show that it is possible to describe narcissistic personality disorder as a personality trait, whose components can also be noticed among the non-clinical population. In this research, the following were correlates of narcissism: self-esteem, empathy, and self-enhancement. It had been hypothesized that self-esteem and self-enhancement would be positive predictors of narcissism, whereas empathy would be a negative one. Self-presentation and its relation to self-enhancement, as well as the relation between empathy and sex have also been examined. The research has been conducted on students of humanistic studies. Four questionnaires have been used: NPI, EQ, SES, and BIDR, which measured narcissism, empathy, self-esteem and self-enhancement, and self-presentation respectively. Non-clinical groups showed high level of narcissism negative correlation between narcissism and empathy, and positive correlation between self-presentation and self-enhancement, as well as relation between empathy and sex, i.e. women were more empathetic than men. No positive correlation between narcissism and self-esteem and self-enhancement has been noted, however, correlations between self-esteem and narcissism were statistically significant.

Niniejsza praca jest próbą pokazania, że narcystyczne zaburzenie osobowości jest możliwe do opisania jako wymiar osobowości, którego składniki można zaobserwować również w populacji osób niezaburzonych. W niniejszym badaniu korelatami narcyzmu były: samoocena, empatia oraz autowaloryzacja . Zakładano, iż samoocena oraz autowaloryzacja będą pozytywnymi predyktorami narcyzmu, natomiast empatia ujemnym. Zmiennymi, które również były objęte badaniem były autoprezentacja i jej związek z autowaloryzacją oraz związek empatii z płcią. Badanie przeprowadzone zostało na studentach studiów humanistycznych. Wykorzystano w nim 4 kwestionariusze: NPI, EQ, SES, BIDR mierzące kolejno: narcyzm, empatię, samoocenę oraz autowaloryzację i autoprezentację. Zaobserwowano ujawnienie się narcyzmu w nieklinicznych populacjach, ujemną korelację między narcyzmem oraz empatią, udało się również dostrzec dodatnią korelację między autoprezentacją i autowaloryzacją oraz związek empatii z płcią w tym znaczeniu, iż kobiety były bardziej empatyczne od mężczyzn. Nie zaobserwowano jednak dodatniej korelacji narcyzmu z samooceną oraz autowaloryzacją, korelacje między samooceną oraz narcyzmem były jednak istotnie statystyczne
