Use of Language in GDR Propaganda

Celem pracy magisterskiej była analiza słownictwa propagandy Niemieckiej Republiki Demokratycznej w dziedzinie szeroko rozumianej polityki, wyszczególnienie najistotniejszych słów oraz zbadanie ich znaczenia. Praca magisterska została podzielona na dwie części: część teoretyczną i analityczną. W części teoretycznej opisano powstanie Niemieckiej Republiki Demokratycznej oraz najważniejsze cechy słownictwa tej epoki. W drugiej części wyróżnione i opisane zostały następujące poddziedziny: słownictwo polityczne, nazwy osób, tytuły wyróżnień oraz nazwy zawodów. Rezultatem badań jest stwierdzenie faktu, że słownictwo propagandowe było silnie nacechowane emocjonalnie w stosunku zarówno do państw wchodzących w skład Związku Radzieckiego jak i tzw. państw zachodnich. Odpowiednie tytuły wyróżnień, nazwy zawodów oraz osób klasyfikowały ludzi według danych kryteriów, zachęcały do uczestnictwa w socjalistycznych konkursach oraz informowały o pozycji społecznej i wykonywanej profesji.

This thesis is an investigation into the political vocabulary of the German Democratic Republic. The goal of this magister thesis is to show which terms were most important in the political field as well as their respective meanings. The thesis was divided into two parts: theoretical and analytical. In the initial theoretical section the terms were explained followed by the origin of the German Democratic Republic and the most important traits of GDR-language were described. In the analytical section the investigation was divided into four parts: politics, personal terms, decorative terms and career terms.As a result of conducted research, it has been found that the propagandistic political language of the GDR had its special meaning and role. Enemy and friend oriented terms were marked with emotions. It was by means of this vocabulary that sympathy or aversion was expressed. The personal terms classified the people according to stated rules. Decorative terms played an important role in social competition. They encouraged workers to participate in that competition. It was because of this that a person became a part of the socialist system. They provided an image and position of the worker. Career terms were found and used mostly for new jobs. They informed about the position of a worker in the social society.

Das Ziel vorliegender Magisterarbeit ist die Untersuchung des DDR-Wortschatzes, wobei man sich für das Leitmotiv weitverstandener Politik entschied. Durch die Analyse der Sekundärliteratur möchten wir konstatieren, welche die wichtigsten DDR-Bezeichnungen auf dem Feld Politik waren und was für eine Bedeutung sie hatten. Am Anfang der Magisterarbeit werden die Begriffe erklärt, dann die Entstehung der DDR sowie die wichtigsten Merkmale der DDR-Sprache beschrieben. Am Ende folgt die Einteilung des DDR-Wortschatzes in Spezifika. In dem analytische Teil wird die Untersuchung des Wortgutes in Hinblick auf die Politik, Personenbezeichnungen, Auszeichnungstitel und Berufsbezeichnungen dargestellt.Als Ergebnis der Untersuchung wurde herausgestellt, dass der politische Wortschatz stark emotional geprägt wurde. Entsprechende Berufs- und Personenbezeichnungen sowie Auszeichnungstitel haben die Menschen nach bestimmten Kriterien klassifiziert, über die gesellschaftliche Position und die Arbeitsstelle informiert.
