Totem starih Srba. Popular cult of Saint Sava.

This thesis presents the phenomenon of christian-pagan cult of one of the greatest authorities of the medieval history of Serbia, Saint Sava (1175-1235/1236). Thesis presents carefully selected aspects of the cult of Saint Sava created in the oral folk tradition of the Serbian Middle Ages. The reference point for discussion is a presentation of the Saint Sava figure, he's educational, diplomatic and religious services with a politico-historical and socio-cultural background and a description of the pagan-christian religious dualism of serbian medieval era. By analysis of selected texts by anonymous medieval folk artists this thesis presents eight issues: Sava the teacher, Sava the miracle worker, Angry god, The Sava and the devil, Shepherd of the wolves, Deity of the underworld, Travelling deity and Pastoral deity.

Praca przedstawia zjawisko chrześcijańsko-pogańskiego kultu jednego z największych autorytetów serbskiego średniowiecza, Świętego Savy (1175-1235/1236). Zaprezentowane w niej zostały wybrane aspekty kultu Świętego Savy w nurcie ustnej tradycji ludowej epoki średniowiecza, których fundament stanowi kult cerkiewny. Punkt odniesienia do rozważań stanowi prezentacja sylwetki postaci Świętego, jego działalności oświatowej, dyplomatycznej oraz cerkiewnej na tle przemian polityczno-historycznych i społeczno-kulturowych wraz z opisem chrześcijańsko-pogańskiego dualizmu religijnego epoki serbskiego średniowiecza. Na przykładzie analizy wybranych tekstów autorstwa średniowiecznych twórców ludowych zaprezentowane zostało osiem zagadnień: Sava nauczyciel, Sava cudotwórca, Gniewne bóstwo, Sava i diabeł, Pasterz wilków, Bóstwo świata podziemnego, Bóstwo podróżujące oraz Bóstwo pasterskie.
