The thesis is to show the current competitive position of the Warsaw Stock Exchange in comparison to stock markets of Central and Eastern Europe. The first chapter allows us to understand the basics of the financial system and the stock market as its main component. The second chapter introduces the concept of competition, competitiveness and competitive position. It also describes the methods for assessing the competitive position of companies. The final chapter presents us with basic information about the stock exchanges selected to be compared with the Warsaw Stock Exchange and evaluating its competitive position. For the purpose of the study I have selected stock exchanges in Prague and Budapest. The main factors taken under consideration to assess the competitive position of the stock markets are the countries’ gross domestic product, capitalization, turnover, number of products offered, number of issuers, as well as the number of initial public offers. The study of the competitive position of the Stock Exchange in Warsaw has proved that our domestic stock market is the leader among regional stock exchanges. The sources used in the thesis are mainly economic literature devoted to the competitiveness and financial systems, articles on stock exchanges, reports and annual statistics.

Praca ma na celu pokazanie aktualnej pozycji konkurencyjnej Giełdy Papierów Wartościowych w Warszawie S.A. na tle giełd Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej. Pierwszy rozdział pozwala zrozumieć podstawy systemu finansowego, którego jednym z komponentów jest giełda. Rozdział drugi wprowadza pojęcie konkurencji, konkurencyjności i pozycji konkurencyjnej. Ukazane są w nim również metody oceny pozycji konkurencyjnej przedsiębiorstw. Jedna z metod została wybrana do przeprowadzenia takiej oceny odnośnie przedsiębiorstwa jakim jest giełda papierów wartościowych. Ostatni rozdział prezentuje nam podstawowe informacje na temat giełd wybranych do porównania z giełdą warszawską, a także ocenę pozycji konkurencyjnej. Do badania zostały wybrane giełdy z Pragi i Budapesztu. Głównymi czynnikami, które zostały dobrane do oceny pozycji konkurencyjnej giełdy są PKB państw, kapitalizacja, wartość obrotów, liczba oferowanych produktów, liczba emitentów, a także liczba debiutów. Badanie pozycji konkurencyjnej Giełdy Papierów Wartościowych w Warszawie S.A. ukazało, iż krajowa giełda zajmuję pozycję lidera wśród giełd regionu. Materiały wykorzystane w pracy licencjackiej to literatura ekonomiczna głównie poświęcona systemowi finansowemu i konkurencyjności, artykuły odnośnie między innymi giełd, a także raporty i roczniki statystyczne.
