Republika Północnego Cypru Tureckiego (tur. Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti) jest państwem uznawanym jedynie przez Republikę Turcji. Lefkoşa (Nikozja) to stolica przedzielona na dwie części. Rauf Denktaş był przez 22 lata prezydentem tureckiej części Cypru. Walczył o zachowanie części terytorium dla swoich rodaków, z tego też powodu należał do grona inicjatorów budowy muru, który do dzisiaj dzieli stolicę. Postrzeganie Denktaşa przez stronę grecką i turecką było i jest bardzo rozbieżne. Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (turkish Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti) is recognised only by Turkey. Lefkoşa (Nicosia) was divided into Greek and Turkish Cypriot quarters with the Green Line. Raud Denktaş occupied position the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus between 1983 and 2005. He was very important figure for Turkish Cypriot because he courted about the Turkish part of the island. The perception of Denktaş by the Greek and Turkish sides was and is very divergent. In order to better understand the history of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, it is worth remembering the figure of this important character.
