New Year (Nouruz) of Zoroastrians in Iran in the context of research on identity

Artykuł stanowi refleksję nad obrzędowością noworoczną zaratusztrian w kontekście badań nad tożsamością zbiorową tej społeczności w Iranie. Analizie poddano materiał badawczy, pozyskany w trakcie badań terenowych oraz uzupełniające go materiały zastane. W artykule wprowadzono czytelnika w zagadnienia związane z zaratusztriańskim kalendarzem i obrzędowością noworoczną, a następnie pokazano wielowymiarowość Nouruzu. W świetle analizy jest on zarówno jednym z głównych wyróżników zaratusztrian jako odrębnej od pozostałych mieszkańców Iranu grupy etnoreligijnej, jak i elementem kultury mającym łączyć te społeczności w kontraście do nie-Irańczyków, postrzeganych jako obcy.

The article reflects on the Zoroastrian New Near’s rituals in the context of research on collective identity of the community in Iran. Re-search materials obtained as a result of fieldwork and the supplemental writ-ten data has been analyzed. The article introduces the reader to the issues related to the Zoroastrian calendar and New Year’s rituals, and then shows the multidimensionality of Nouruz. According to the analysis it is one of the main features distinguishing Zoroastrian as a separate ethnoreligious group from other Iranian citizens, as well as an element of culture that may connect these communities in contrast to non-Iranians perceived as others.
