"Where writing runs into death..." : "Ars moriendi nova" w blogu Wolfganga Herrndorfa "Arbeit und Struktur" (2010-2013)

Cel artykułu stanowi analiza opublikowanego w roku 2013 w formie książkowej bloga Arbeit und Struktur autorstwa niemieckiego pisarza Wolfganga Herrndorfa (1965- 2013) jako tekstu o charakterze autotanatograficznym, w którym autor mierzy się z doświadczeniem śmiertelnej choroby i perspektywą bliskiej śmierci. Prowadzony przez Herrndorfa online, a następnie wydany w formie książkowej dziennik protokołujący trzy ostatnie lata jego życia (od czasu zdiagnozowania u niego guza mózgu do śmierci) analizowany jest w artykule jako zapis kwestionującej tradycje religijne, rezygnującej z nadziei na życie po śmierci i opowiadającej się za prawem cierpiącego, śmiertelnie chorego do eutanazji. ars moriendi nova, w której miejsce tradycyjnej potrzeby potwierdzenia związku z Bogiem zajmuje potrzeba potwierdzenia wartości i wzorców wyznawanych w dotychczasowym życiu.

The aim of this article is to discuss Wolfgang Herrndorf’s (1965-2013) weblog Arbeit und Struktur, published in book form in 2013, as an autothanatographic text, i.e. autobiographical writing that focuses on the individual’s coming to terms with terminal illness and death. Arbeit und Struktur is an account of the last three years of Herrndorf’s life (from when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor until his death). His blog is analyzed as a literary document of ars moriendi nova, which questions religious traditions, abandons the hope for life after death, pleads for the right for euthanasia in the face of an unbearable suffering and irreversible illness, and substitutes the need to reconfirm the link with God, which is characteristic of traditional forms of ars moriendi, with the need to reconfirm the values held throughout one’s life.

Der Beitrag setzt sich zum Ziel, das 2013 in Buchform veröffentlichte Weblog Wolfgang Herrndorfs (1965-2013) Arbeit und Struktur als eine Autothanatographie zu analysieren, d.h. als einen Text, in dessen Zentrum die Auseinandersetzung des Ichs mit seinem Sterben und Tod steht. Dabei wird das Online-Diarium als ein literarisches Dokument der ars moriendi nova betrachtet. Diese begegnet dem Phänomen der Sterblichkeit mit der Infragestellung althergebrachter religiös vermittelter Konzepte, klammert die Hoffnung auf ein Jenseits aus, verwandelt das in der traditionellen ars moriendi dominierende religiöse Bekenntnis in ein „Bekenntnis zur eigenen Biografie und den darin gelebten Glaubensvorstellungen“ und plädiert für das Recht auf einen selbstbestimmten Tod angesichts einer irreversiblen Krankheit und unerträglich gewordener Leiden.
