Life in the Shadow of the Grand Inquisitor : Józef Tischner and Fyodor Dostoevsky

Obecność literackiej figury Wielkiego Inkwizytora (zaczerpniętej z powieści Fiodora Dostojewskiego „Bracia Karamazow”) w myśli filozoficznej Józefa Tischnera staje się okazją do przyjrzenia się zagadnieniu wolności oraz do zadania pytania o specyficznie Tischnerowski sposób stawiania i rozwijania jednego z podstawowych zagadnień filozoficznych. Pytając o wolność nie unikniemy również pytań dotyczących zagrożeń wolności (stanowi to centralne „miejsce” przedstawianego sposobu myślenia, w którym pojawia się figura Wielkiego Inkwizytora). Dodatkowym atutem Tischnerowskich analiz jest wskazanie na nieprzemijające znaczenie intuicji, sposobów obrazowania i formułowania ważkich idei, z jakimi spotykamy się w twórczości pisarza rosyjskiego.

The presence of the literary fi gure of the Grand Inquisitor (taken from the novel entitled The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky) in the philosophical thought of Józef Tischner gives the opportunity to look at the issue of freedom and ask a question about the specifi c Tischnerian way of putting forward and developing one of the basic philosophical issues. When asking about freedom, it is impossible to avoid questions about threats to freedom (this problem takes the central place in the presented way of thinking, in which the fi gure of the Grand Inquisitor appears). An additional advantage of Tischner’s analysis is the indelible signifi cance of intuition and the way in which he illustrates and formulates important ideas that can be found in the work of the Russian writer.
