Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy są wybrane równania i nierówności funkcyjne. Różnią się one tym od klasycznych równań i nierówności, że argumentami są w nich funkcje zamiast liczb rzeczywistych. Wykorzystuje się je zarówno w matematyce jak również w innych dziedzinach nauki, ponieważ stanowią alternatywę dla metod analitycznych. W pierwszym rozdziale opisana jest historia równań funkcyjnych z zaznaczeniem, że jest to jedna z młodszych dziedzin matematyki. W rozdziale drugim zamieszczono podstawowe definicje związane z zagadnieniem równań funkcyjnych. W kolejnym rozdziale przedstawiono cztery równania Cauchy’ego oraz pokazano jak znaleźć ich rozwiązania przy założeniu, że szukana funkcja jest ciągła na całym zbiorze liczb rzeczywistych. W czwartym rozdziale skupiono się na szukaniu rozwiązań liniowego równania Cauchy’ego przy słabszych założeniach niż ciągłość rozwiązania na całym zbiorze liczb rzeczywistych. Rozdział piąty poświęcony jest funkcjom subaddytywnym. Jest to jedyny rozdział w pracy, gdzie występują nierówności funkcyjne. Rozdział szósty poświęcony jest innym równaniom funkcyjnym niż równania Cauchy’ego. W ostatnim rozdziale pokazane są niektóre z zastosowań równań funkcyjnych.

The subject of this text are selected functional equations and inequalities. They differ from classical equations and inequalities because their arguments are functions instead of real numbers. They are used both in mathematics and in other fields of sciense, as they are an alternative to analytical methods. The first chapter describes the history of functional equations with the emphasis that it is one of the younger areas of mathematics. The second chapter contains basic definitions related to the problem of functional equations. The next chapter presents four Cauchy equations and shows how to find their solutions, assuming that the function being searched for is continuous over the whole set of real numbers. The fourth chapter focuses on finding solutions to the linear Cauchy equation with weaker assumptions than the continuity of the solution over the entire set of real numbers. The fifth chapter is devoted to subadditive functions. This is the only chapter in the text where there are functional inequalities. Chapter six is devoted to functional equations other than Cauchy equations. The last chapter shows some of the uses of functional equations.
