Heroides translated by Wojciech Chrościński - how Ovid was translated and published at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries

Niniejsza praca licencjacka porusza zagadnienie szesnasto- i siedemnastowiecznych tłumaczeń Owidiusza na język polski. Jako przykład takiego tłumaczenia analizie zostaną poddane "Rozmowy listowne" Wojciecha Chrościńskiego, czyli przekład "Heroides" Owidiusza, których pierwsze wydanie jest datowane na 1695, drugie zaś – na 1733 rok. Celem pracy jest scharakteryzowanie typografii obu wydań, omówienie wynikłych z analizy podobieństw i różnic, a także próba umiejscowienia tychże druków w ówcześnie panujących zwyczajach drukarskich i typograficznych. Analizie zostanie poddany także sam przekład, poprzez porównanie fragmentu tekstu Chrościńskiego zarówno z łacińskim oryginałem, jak i współcześnie dokonanym tłumaczeniem. Na tej podstawie zostaną wyciągnięte wnioski dotyczące języka i stylu autora przekładu.

This Bachelor thesis pertains to translations of Ovid’s works into Polish from sixteenth and seventeenth century. As the example of such a translation, the author of thesis choosed for the analysis „Rozmowy listowne”, first Polish translation of "Heroides" by Wojciech Chrościński; first edition was released in 1695, the second – in 1733.The aim of the thesis is the characterization of typography of both editions, the analysis of similar and different features of the work and a try of placing these editions in the context of printing and typographic habits of that time. The author is going to analyze the translation of Chrościński through the comparison the fragments from these edition with both Latin original and modern Polish translation. Basing on these factors, the author is going to infer the conclusion of language and style of Chrościński’s translation.
