Muslim means a terrorist? Image of Muslims in American television series in 21st century

W niniejszej pracy licencjackiej został poruszony temat kreowania wizerunku muzułmanów w amerykańskich serialach telewizyjnych. Przedstawiona została konfrontacja cech rzeczywistych przypisywanych muzułmanom przez społeczeństwo amerykańskie z cechami postaci w serialach. Następnie wartości te przysłużyły się do przeanalizowania tego, na ile są one wykorzystywane do wykreowania postaci stereotypowych terrorystów. W rozdziałach teoretycznych zostały uwzględnione najważniejsze pojęcia, które posłużą lepszemu zrozumieniu tematyki pracy. Ponadto przedstawiona została historia terroryzmu w Stanach Zjednoczonych w XXI wieku, postać Osamy bin Ladena oraz nastawienie społeczeństwa amerykańskiego względem muzułmanów.W rozdziale badawczym została ukazana analiza dwóch seriali amerykańskich – „Sleeper Cell” oraz „Homeland”. Przedstawione zostały postaci muzułmanów w wybranych odcinkach obydwu seriali, z naciskiem położonym na wybrane wartości.

In this BA thesis, the main topic is about creating the image of Muslims in American television series. Work presents confrontation of real features attributed to Muslims by American society with features of characters in television series. The same features have served to analyze how they are used to create the stereotypical characters of terrorists.The theoretical chapters include the most important definitions that will help you better understand the subject of work. In addition, it presents the history of terrorism in the United States in the 21st century, the figure of Osama bin Laden and the attitude of American society towards Muslims..The research chapter presents an analysis of two American television series - "Sleeper Cell" and "Homeland". The characters of Muslims in selected episodes of both television series have been presented, with an emphasis on selected features.
