CZY JĘZYK BBC TO WCIĄŻ TRADYCYJNY „ANGIELSKI BBC?” BBC (BRYTYJSKA KORPORACJA NADAWCZA) JAKO PROPAGATOR AKCENTU RECEIVED PRONUNCIATION

W pracy podjęto problem wpływu Cockney, czyli lokalnego akcentu mieszkańców Londynu, i Estuary English, wymowy łączącej cechy akcentu londyńskiego i standardowej brytyjskiej artykulacji, na wymowę używaną w BBC, określaną jako Received Pronunciation. Analiza ma na celu określenie, w jakim stopniu fonetyczne cechy wymienionych akcentów zauważalne są w dykcji prezenterów BBC używanej w podkastach – internetowych publikacjach dźwiękowych. Badanie poprzedzone jest analizą cech języka i klasyfikacją dialektów i akcentów Wielkiej Brytanii, zamieszczonymi w rozdziale drugim. Rozdział trzeci stanowi syntezę historii BBC i stosunku tej korporacji do poprawności językowej; zawiera on także szczegółowy opis Received Pronunciation i zmian dokonywujących się w tym akcencie. W rozdziale czwartym prezentowana jest analiza trzech typów podkastów: informacyjnych, rozrywkowych oraz edukacyjnych. Wyniki badania wskazują, że wpływ londyńskich akcentów na standardową wymowę brytyjską używaną przez prezenterów BBC jest znaczny i różni się w zależności od typu programu.

The subject of this research is the influence of Estuary English and Cockney on the accent used by the British Broadcasting Company in podcasts, Received Pronunciation. It investigates three types of BBC podcasts: news, entertainment, and learning, the aim being to assess the extent to which the Received Pronunciation of the BBC announcers is changing. The analysis is grounded on fundamental approaches towards language, as well as the classifications of the dialects and accents of the British Isles, which are presented in Chapter Two. The third chapter investigates the history of the BBC and their approach to language, in addition to a detailed summary of Received Pronunciation and its developments. Chapter Four verifies to what extent the features of Estuary English and Cockney are distinguishable in the selected podcasts. The results demonstrate that these characteristics are influential on the Received Pronunciation of the BBC presenters, and that this influence differs, depending on the podcasts formality level.
