Bohaterki Shakespeare'a a społeczeństwo patriarchalne: analiza wybranych dzieł

Poniższa praca “Bohaterki Shakespeare’a a społeczeństwo patriarchalne: analiza wybranych dzieł” bada sytuację kobiet w czasach Shakespeare’a, porównuje ich cechy osobowości z ówczesnymi standardami społecznymi oraz przedstawia konsekwencje przeciwstawiania się patriarchalnemu systemowi władzy. Praca składa się z części teoretycznej i analitycznej. W części teoretycznej ukazano tło społeczno-kulturowe średniowiecza oraz renesansu, charakterystykę ideału kobiety tego okresu oraz postać Szekspira w ujęciu gender studies. Z kolei część analityczna pracy skupia się na analizie sposobów ukazania bohaterek Szekspira w patriarchalnym świecie przedstawionym: Hermiony z “Zimowej opowieści”, Julii z “Romea i Julii” oraz Lady Makbet z “Makbeta”. Autorka pracy rozważa jak w jaki sposób przedstawiano kobiece postaci w literaturze, czy spełniają narzuconą im rolę społeczną, oraz analizuje ich stan duchowy i emocjonalny wykreowany przez sztukę dramatyczną Szekspira. Wyniki tej pracy wskazują na to, że wybrane postaci nie odzwierciedlają cech oraz zachowań ówczesnych kobiet.

This thesis titled Shakespeare’s female characters and patriarchal society: an analysis of selected plays, examines the situation of women of Shakespeare's times, their personality traits that stood in opposition to the standards of that time and the consequences of opposing the patriarchal system of power. The paper consists of two main parts: historical and analytical. The historical part focuses on the presentation of the socio-cultural background of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and the characteristics of an ideal woman as understood in that period. It also explains the concept of literary characterization, makes a reference to feminist criticism and looks at Shakespeare in the framework of gender studies. The analytical part underlines mainly the female roles prevailing in patriarchal society and presents an analysis of selected female characters from Shakespeare's plays: Hermione from The Winter's Tale, Juliet from Romeo and Juliet, Lady Macbeth from Macbeth. The author of the thesis considers how the female characters are represented in Shakespeare’s drama, and whether their depiction reflects the traditional roles of Renaissance women in the patriarchal system of power. The results of the analysis show that the dramatic figures of women in the plays do not quite follow the standards of their time.
