Artykuł omawia najważniejsze osiągniecia w badaniach nad architekturą doby Mieszka I i Bolesława Chrobrego z ostatnich dekad. Stan badań jest wysoce niepewny, jednak rozpoznane już relikty zespołów rezydencjonalnych, katedr oraz kościołów o innych funkcjach pozwala dostrzec ambicje pierwszych władców, dążących do manifestowania na swoich ziemiach nowego charakteru władzy i nowej religii za pomocą architektury kamiennej. Zarówno władca jako fundator, jak i jego doradcy oraz warsztaty sprowadzane do Polski czerpali inspiracje z różnych kręgów artystycznych takich jak Saksonia czy rejony północnej Italii.

The article discusses the most important achievements in research on the architecture of the era of Mieszko I and Bolesław Chrobry in recent decades. The state of research is highly uncertain, but the already identified relics of residential complexes, cathedrals and churches with other functions allow us to see the ambitions of the first rulers, who sought to manifest the new character of power and the new religion in their lands through stone architecture. Both the ruler as the founder and his advisers, as well as the workshops brought to Poland, drew inspiration from various artistic circles, such as Saxony and northern Italy.
