Metaphysical revolt as an expression of opposition to the human condition in Albert Camus’ novel The Stranger and Krzysztof Kieślowski’s A Short Film About Killing

Niniejsza praca analizuje kategorie absurdu i buntu w ujęciu Alberta Camusa oraz ich odzwierciedlenie w literaturze i filmie XX wieku. Przedmiotem badań są mikropowieść Obcy (1942) oraz Krótki film o zabijaniu (1988) Krzysztofa Kieślowskiego, interpretowane w perspektywie egzystencjalizmu. Celem pracy jest ukazanie roli filozofii Camusa w kontekście historycznym i kulturowym oraz przedstawienie, w jaki sposób dzieła literackie i filmowe wyrażają doświadczenia egzystencjalne jednostki. Analiza podkreśla znaczenie absurdu i buntu jako kluczowych pojęć dla refleksji nad kondycją człowieka XX wieku.

This thesis analyzes the categories of the absurd and revolt as defined by Albert Camus and their reflection in twentieth-century literature and film. The study focuses on the novella The Stranger (1942) and Krzysztof Kieślowski’s A Short Film About Killing (1988), both interpreted within the framework of existentialist philosophy. The aim of the work is to present the role of Camus’s thought in its historical and cultural context and to examine how literary and cinematic works convey existential experiences of the individual. The analysis emphasizes the importance of the absurd and revolt as key concepts for reflecting on the human condition in the twentieth century.
