Third Indochina War in the light of the official Chinese press

Celem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie sposobu, w jaki chińska prasa oficjalna – na przykładzie dziennika Renmin Ribao – relacjonowała wydarzenia związane z III wojną indochińską, rozumianą jako konflikt chińsko-wietnamski z lutego i marca 1979 roku. Praca składa się z pięciu rozdziałów. Pierwszy z nich omawia antecedencje konfliktu, skupiając się na polityce zagranicznej Chińskiej Republiki Ludowej wobec Stanów Zjednoczonych i Związku Radzieckiego, co pozwala uchwycić geopolityczne uwarunkowania wojny. Rozdział drugi poświęcony został wietnamskiej inwazji na Kambodżę i charakterystyce Wietnamu przedstawianej na łamach Renmin Ribao. Rozdział trzeci analizuje potencjał bojowy stron, stosunek sił oraz incydenty graniczne stanowiące bezpośrednie casus belli konfliktu. Rozdział czwarty opisuje przebieg działań zbrojnych, dzieląc je na trzy fazy wojny i trzy fronty inwazji. Pracę zamyka rozdział piąty, w którym ocenia się skuteczność Chińskiej Armii Ludowo-Wyzwoleńczej, problematykę rozstrzygnięcia dalsze jego następstwa po 16 marca 1979 roku.

The aim of this thesis is to present the manner in which the Chinese official press, using the example of the Renmin Ribao newspaper, reported on events related to the Third Indochina War, understood as the Sino-Vietnamese conflict from February to March 1979. The work consists of five chapters. The first discusses the antecedents of the conflict, focusing on the foreign policy of the People's Republic of China towards the United States and the Soviet Union, which allows to grasp the geopolitical conditions of the war. The second chapter is devoted to the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia and the characterization of Vietnam presented in Renmin Ribao. The third chapter analyzes the combat potential of the parties, the balance of power, and the border incidents that constituted the direct casus belli of the conflict. The fourth chapter describes the course of military operations, dividing them into three phases of the war and three areas of the invasion. The work concludes with the fifth chapter, which assesses the effectiveness of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, the issue of the resolution, and its consequences after March 16, 1979.
