Scipio Africanus the Younger and his impact on the course of the Third Punic War

Praca poświęcona jest analizie roli Publiusza Korneliusza Scypiona Emilianusa Afrykańskiego Młodszego w przebiegu trzeciej wojny punickiej (149-146 p.n.e.). Przedstawiono tło historyczne konfliktu, formację polityczną i wojskową Scypiona, jego działania podczas oblężenia Kartaginy oraz wpływ na politykę Republiki Rzymskiej w późniejszych latach. W oparciu o źródła antyczne, m.in Polibiusza, Appiana i Plutarcha, ukazano zarówno talent dowódczy, jak i umiejętność kształtowania wizerunku przez Scypiona, które pozwoliły mu zdobyć wyjątkową pozycję w państwie i ostatecznie doprowadzić do zburzenia Kartaginy.

This thesis analyzes the role of Publius Cornelius Scipio Aemilianus Africanus Minor in the course of the Third Punic War (149-146 BC). It presents the historical background of the conflict, Scipio's political and military formation, his actions during the siege of Carthage and his influence on the politics of the Roman Republic in later years. Based on ancient sources suck as Polybius, Appian and Plutarch, the study highlights both Scipio's military talent and his skill in shaping his public image, which allowed him to achieve an exceptional position in the state and ultimately lead to the destruction of Carthage
