Albania’s accession to the European Union from the perspective of the young generation. Socio-cultural dimensions of European integration

Praca podejmuje temat perspektywy akcesji Albanii do Unii Europejskiej, analizowanej z punktu widzenia młodego pokolenia oraz stopnia, w jakim proces europeizacji jest już obecny w ich codziennych doświadczeniach mimo formalnego braku członkostwa. Celem badań było ukazanie, jak integracja europejska wpływa na życie społeczne, edukacyjne i kulturowe młodych Albańczyków oraz jakie szanse i zagrożenia wiążą się z tym procesem. Analiza wykazała, że młodzież postrzega członkostwo w UE jako szansę na rozwój i mobilność, ale równocześnie zmaga się z problemem nasilonej emigracji, która osłabia potencjał rozwojowy kraju. Potwierdzono także, że proces europeizacji faktycznie już trwa – dzięki programom unijnym, takim jak Erasmus+, oraz wpływowi mediów społecznościowych, które kształtują europejską tożsamość młodego pokolenia. Wnioski wskazują, że przyszłość Albanii w UE zależy od konsekwentnych reform wewnętrznych i politycznej zgody wszystkich państw członkowskich, jednak niezależnie od formalnej akcesji młode pokolenie już dziś funkcjonuje w przestrzeni europejskich wartości i praktyk społecznych.

This thesis explores the perspective of Albania’s accession to the European Union, analyzed from the viewpoint of the young generation and the extent to which the process of Europeanization is already present in their daily experiences despite the country’s formal non-membership. The aim of the study was to examine how European integration affects the social, educational, and cultural life of young Albanians, as well as the opportunities and challenges it entails. The analysis shows that young people perceive EU membership as a chance for development and mobility, but at the same time they face the issue of increasing emigration, which weakens the country’s developmental potential. The research also confirms that the process of Europeanization is already underway—through EU programs such as Erasmus+ and the influence of social media, which shape the European identity of the young generation. The findings indicate that Albania’s future in the EU depends on consistent domestic reforms and the political consent of all member states. However, regardless of the formal moment of accession, young Albanians are already functioning within the framework of European values and social practices.
