Linguistic intensification in a social media discourse

Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest analiza intensyfikacji językowej w dyskursie internetowym przeprowadzona na podstawie korpusu stworzonego na bazie komentarzy opublikowanych na jednej z popularnych platform społecznościowych, Instagramie. W pierwszej części przedstawiono obecny stań badań nad intensywnością prowadzonych w językoznawstwie francuskim; następnie przedstawiono kluczowe dla pracy pojęcia wraz z definicjami. W drugiej części przedstawiono i opisano typologię sposobów wyrażania intensywności ułożoną według poziomów analizy językowej. Typologia ta została następnie wykorzystana do przeprowadzenia analiz danych pochodzących z korpusu: jakościowej oraz ilościowej. Czwarta część zawiera wnioski oraz propozycje dalszych badań.

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the means of linguistic intensification used in internet discourse. The analysis was conducted on a corpus consisting of comments published on a popular social media platform, Instagram. The first part of the study discusses the actual state of the research in linguistic intensification and focuses on the French linguistics. Then, crucial terms for the thesis are defined. The second part of the study features a typology of the means of intensification organized according to the levels of linguistic analysis. This typology is used in the next part to carry out the analysis: firstly, the qualitative, secondly, the quantitative. The fourth, last part presents conclusions and proposes possible extensions for the research.

Le présent mémoire de master a pour objectif l’analyse des procédés d’intensification utilisés dans le discours sur Internet. L’analyse a été effectuée sur un corpus constitué de commentaires recueillis sur un des réseaux sociaux populaires, à savoir Instagram. La première partie du mémoire fait le point sur l’état de la recherche sur l’intensification et se concentre sur la linguistique francophone ; ensuite, les notions cruciales pour le mémoire sont présentées. La deuxième partie élabore une typologie des moyens d’intensification regroupés selon les niveaux d’analyse linguistique. Ladite typologie est ensuite employée dans la partie suivante afin de procéder à des analyses qualitative et quantitative du corpus. La quatrième partie présente des conclusions ainsi que des propositions d’élargissement du sujet.
