Terrorism in Europe in the 21st century: legal aspects, analysis of selected attack cases, and counteraction strategies

Celem pracy jest przedstawienie problematyki terroryzmu ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem terroryzmu występującego w Europie w XXI wieku. W piewszym rozdziale została omówiona problematyka definicji terroryzmu, jego historia, klasyfikacje oraz przyczyny. W następnym rozdziale dochodzi do analizy obowiązujących unormowań prawnych z zakresu terroryzmu na poziomie: międzynarodowym (ONZ oraz NATO), europejskim oraz polskim. Rozdział trzeci poświęcony jest analizie wybranych zamachów mających miejsce w Europie w XXI wieku, ze szczególnym zwróceniem uwagi na sposób przeprowadzenia zamachów oraz reakcje służb. Praca skupia się na przeanalizowaniu trzech zamachów: Madryt (2004), Londyn (2005) oraz Oslo (2011). W ostatnim rozdziale przedstawione są możliwe działania wykrywcze oraz prewencyjne, w kontekście wybranych sfer działalności antyterrorystycznej.

The aim of this thesis is to examine the issue of terrorism, with a particular focus on terrorist activities occurring in Europe in the 21st century. The first chapter explores the definitional complexity of terrorism, its historical development, classifications, and underlying causes. The second chapter provides an analysis of current legal regulations concerning counterterrorism efforts at the international level (including the United Nations and NATO), as well as at the European and national (Polish) levels. The third chapter is devoted to a case study analysis of selected terrorist attacks in Europe, with specific attention given to the execution methods and the responses of security services. The thesis focuses on three major incidents: Madrid (2004), London (2005), and Oslo (2011). The final chapter outlines potential detection and prevention strategies within selected areas of counterterrorism operations.
