Inter-daily changes in atmospheric pressure in Krakow and their determinants

Celem pracy jest analiza międzydobowych zmian ciśnienia atmosferycznego w Krakowie w latach 1971–2020 oraz identyfikacja ich uwarunkowań. Zmiany ciśnienia, zwłaszcza nagłe, mają istotny wpływ na organizm człowieka, zwłaszcza w miastach o charakterystycznym mikroklimacie, takich jak Kraków. W pracy wykorzystano dane ze stacji synoptycznej Kraków-Balice, obejmujące średnie dobowe wartości ciśnienia atmosferycznego sprowadzone do poziomu morza oraz dane terminowe. Analizy statystyczne i graficzne pozwoliły ocenić trendy zmian ciśnienia atmosferycznego i powiązać je z cyrkulacją atmosferyczną, występowaniem mas powietrza oraz obecnością frontów atmosferycznych. Wyniki pracy przyczyniają się do lepszego zrozumienia lokalnych procesów atmosferycznych oraz ich wpływu na zdrowie i funkcjonowanie mieszkańców i osób przebywających w Krakowie.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the inter-daily changes in atmospheric pressure in Krakow from 1971 to 2020 and to identify their determinants. Pressure changes, especially sudden ones, have a significant impact on the human body, especially in cities with a characteristic microclimate, such as Krakow. The paper uses data from the Krakow-Balice synoptic station, including daily average values of atmospheric pressure brought to sea level and timely data. Statistical and graphical analyses made it possible to assess trends in atmospheric pressure changes and relate them to atmospheric circulation, the occurrence of air masses and the presence of atmospheric fronts. The results of the paper contribute to a better understanding of local atmospheric processes and their impact on the health and functioning of residents and visitors to Krakow.
