The Afro-Cuban Santería and the Cuban Government - from the Revolution to the Present

Autor w niniejsze pracy omawia relację porewolucyjnego rządu kubańskiego i religii afro-kubańskiej Santería, a także przedstawia sposób w jaki stała się ona celebrowaną częścią kubańskiego dziedzictwa narodowego i kluczowym ogniwem kubańskiego przemysłu turystycznego. Przedział czasowy, na którym skupia się praca obejmuje czasy od 1959 do współczesności. Informacje przedstawione w pracy ukazują dynamiczność i charakter przemian na przestrzeni dekad, a także tłumaczą proces i powód tychże. Praca została podzielona na trzy rozdziały. Rozdział pierwszy nakreśla Santerie jako religię i przybliża kontekst historyczny sprzed rewolucji kubańskiej jak i kontekst rewolucji samej w sobie, wprowadza i tłumaczy istotne dla zagadnienia pojęcia używane w rozdziałach kolejnych. Rozdział drugi przestawia podejście rządu kubańskiego w pierwszych trzech dekadach porewolucyjnej Kuby. Rozdział trzeci opisuje zmianę w postrzeganiu Santerii przez władzę i nagłe wyniesienie jej na kulturowy piedestał w obliczu kryzysu gospodarczego lat 90, a także sposób w jaki ta religia jest praktykowana i eksploatowana współcześnie. Praca ukazuje również podejście komunistycznych władz Kuby do religii jako zjawiska.Praca stanowi wprowadzenie do tematu w języku polskim.

In this work, the author discusses the relationship between the post-revolutionary Cuban government and the Afro-Cuban religion Santería, and how it became a celebrated part of the Cuban national heritage and a key link in the Cuban tourism industry. The time span on which the work focuses spans from 1959 to the present day. The information presented in the work reveals the dynamism and nature of the transformation over the decades, and explains the process and the reason for it. The work is divided into three chapters. The first chapter outlines Santería as a religion and introduces the historical context prior to the Cuban revolution as well as the context of the revolution itself, introducing and explaining the terms relevant for the subject used in the following chapters. The second chapter outlines the Cuban government's approach in the first three decades of post-revolutionary Cuba. The third chapter describes the change in the perception of Santería by the authorities and its sudden elevation to a cultural pedestal in the face of the economic crisis of the 1990s, as well as the way in which this religion is practised and exploited today. The work also reveals approach of the Cuban communist government to religion as a phenomenon.The paper provides an introduction to the subject in Polish.
