The image of Japan on shin hanga woodcuts and in the literature of japanologists of the nineteenth and twentieth century

The 19th and 20th centuries in Japan were a period following its forced opening to the West by the United States, during which it began to participate more intensely in international relations, resulting in political and cultural changes, including in the art of woodblock printing. In the face of foreign cultures, it became important to shape an image that would be attractive, especially since foreigners arriving in Japan in the 19th century were fascinated by it and described it in an idealized way. The author's goal in this work is to investigate the influence that the perspective of foreigners, through their literary works, had on the image of Japan portrayed by the Japanese in shin hanga woodblock prints.
