A story of the II. world war comfort women - the victims’ experiences, psychological and social consequences

Tematem pracy licencjackiej jest historia kobiet pocieszycielek, które były ofiarami niewolnictwa seksualnego z rąk armii japońskiej podczas II wojny światowej. Opierając się na zeznaniach ofiar praca ta opisuje doświadczenia kobiet od momentu porwania, przez podróż do tzw. ośrodków pocieszycielskich, doświadczenia podczas niewoli, aż do momentu zakończenia wojny i w kolejnych latach. Poruszony został także temat eufemizmów określających ofiary niewolnictwa seksualnego oraz miejsc, w których je więziono. Analizując informacje z książek na temat historii Japonii w okresie II wojny światowej, dokumentów z ośrodków pocieszycielskich oraz zeznań ofiar praca odpowiada na pytania o to, jak kobiety trafiały do wojskowych domów publicznych oraz jak, gdzie i dlaczego powstawały te miejsca. Praca odpowiada także na pytania o to, czego doświadczały na co dzień kobiety w niewoli, czego były świadkami i jak działały ośrodki pocieszycielskie. Następnie odpowiedziano na pytania o to, jak wyglądało dalsze życie tych kobiet, które przeżyły do końca wojny i odzyskały wolność, z jakimi zmagały się trudami i jakie były konsekwencje zdrowotne, społeczne i psychologiczne tego, czego doświadczyły jako kobiety pocieszycielki.

The topic of this paper is the story of comfort women, who were victims of sexual slavery at the hands of the Japanese army during the II. world war. Based on the victims' testimonies, this paper describes the women's experiences from the moment they were taken, throughout their journey to the so-called comfort stations, their experiences during captivity, up until the moment the war ended and the following years. Mentioned and discussed in the paper is also the topic of euphemisms used to describe the victims of sexual slavery as well as their places of imprisonment. By analysing information from books on Japan's history during the II. world war, documents from comfort stations and victims' testimonies this paper answers the questions about how the women got into the military brothels and how, where and why these places were established. This paper also describes, what the women experienced in their daily lives at the comfort stations, what they witnessed there and how these establishments worked. Furthermore, the question about what life was like for those women, that survived until the end of the war and regained their freedom, is answered, showing what struggles they had to face and what were the social, psychological and health consequences of being a comfort woman.
