High-speed rail in Poland

Niniejsza praca licencjacka koncentruje się na problematyce rozwoju kolei dużych prędkości (KDP) w Polsce, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem obecnego stanu, planowanych inwestycji oraz koncepcji infrastrukturalnych. Celem pracy jest ocena perspektyw rozwoju sieci KDP w Polsce na tle doświadczeń Niemiec i Francji. W badaniu zastosowano analizę literatury naukowej oraz dokumentów strategicznych i planistycznych, a także analizę porównawczą danych demograficznych wybranych miast. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych analiz wykazano, że optymalnym modelem dla polskiej sieci KDP jest wzorzec niemiecki (ICE), oparty na połączeniach między dużymi ośrodkami miejskimi. Rekomenduje się, aby rozwój KDP w Polsce opierał się przede wszystkim na tzw. „linii Y” oraz modernizacji Centralnej Magistrali Kolejowej (CMK Północ), co pozwoli na zapewnienie dostępności usług dla jak największej części populacji. Wskazano również na istotne znaczenie połączeń międzynarodowych – zwłaszcza z Niemcami, Czechami oraz państwami bałtyckimi – dla integracji Polski z paneuropejską siecią transportową.

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the development of high-speed rail (HSR) in Poland, with particular emphasis on the current state, planned investments, and infrastructure concepts. The aim of the study is to assess the prospects for the development of the HSR network in Poland in the context of the experiences of Germany and France. The research employs an analysis of scientific literature as well as strategic and planning documents, alongside a comparative analysis of demographic data from selected cities. Based on the conducted analyses, it has been demonstrated that the optimal model for Poland’s HSR network is the German ICE system, built around connections between major urban centers. It is recommended that the development of HSR in Poland be primarily based on the so-called “Y line” and the modernization of the Central Rail Line (CMK), which would ensure accessibility of services to the widest possible segment of the population. The study also highlights the importance of international connections—especially with Germany, the Czech Republic, and the Baltic States—for integrating Poland into the pan-European transport network.
