Embodied Utopia. Utopian Impulses in the Choreographic Practices of Diana Niepce and Agata Siniarska

Praca stanowi próbę poszukiwania i interpretacji „utopijnych impulsów” w spektaklach The Other Side of Dance Diany Niepce oraz null&void Agaty Siniarskiej. Odwołując się do „metody utopii” Fredrica Jamesona i koncepcji „utopijnych performatywów” Jill Dolan, autorka analizuje, w jaki sposób ciała obecne na scenie – ciało z niepełnosprawnością oraz ciało podejmujące próbę ucieleśnienia doświadczeń istot nie-ludzkich – mogą stać się przestrzenią tymczasowego urzeczywistniania alternatywnej, utopijnej rzeczywistości. Celem analizy jest ukazanie, w jaki sposób strategie prezentacji indywidualnej cielesności performerek oraz międzygatunktowe splątania, w jakich funkcjonują, wpływają na emergencję utopijnych impulsów oraz mobilizują do refleksji nad potencjalnym rozwojem performatywów utopijnych generowanych na scenie i współdzielonych w ramach wspólnotowego doświadczenia „communitas”.

This thesis explores and interprets “utopian impulses” in the performances The Other Side of Dance by Diana Niepce and null&void by Agata Siniarska. Drawing on Fredric Jameson’s method of utopia and Jill Dolan’s concept of “utopian performatives,” the author examines how the bodies on stage – a body with a disability and a body attempting to embody the experiences of non-human beings – can become a space for the temporary realization of an alternative, utopian reality. The purpose of the analysis is to show how the strategies of presenting the individual corporeality of the performers, as well as the interspecies entanglements in which their operate, influence the emergence of utopian impulses and mobilize reflection on the potential development of utopian performatives generated on stage and shared within the communal experience of “communitas”.
