Numidian-Roman relations during the reigns of Masinissa, Micipsa and Jugurtha

Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza stosunków pomiędzy Królestwem Numidii (początkowo plemionami numidyjskimi) a Republiką Rzymską od początku kariery politycznej Masynissy do zakończenia wojny jugurtyńskiej. Autor skupia się na ukazaniu ewolucji w relacjach numidyjsko-rzymskich na tle czynników politycznych oraz militarnych, a także wykazaniu obopólnych korzyści z nich wynikających, na przestrzeni ponad stuletniego okresu historycznego. Ponadto w pracy podniesiono również problem tego, jak osobiste ambicje władców Numidii wpływały na kontakty z rzymskim patronem.

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the relations between the Kingdom of Numidia (initially the Numidian tribal communities) and the Roman Republic from the beginning of Masinissa’s political career to the end of the Jugurthine War. The author focuses on illustrating the evolution of Numidian–Roman relations in the context of political and military factors, as well as on identifying the mutual benefits that emerged from this relationship over a period of more than a century. Furthermore, the thesis raises the issue of how the personal ambitions of Numidian rulers influenced their contacts with their Roman patron.
