Niniejsza praca dotyczy autofikcyjnej i autobiograficznej powieści „Herkunft” autorstwa Sašy Stanišicia. Celem tego opracowania jest analiza różnorodnych elementów składających się na pojęcie pochodzenia człowieka, a także ukazanie złożoności procesu poszukiwania własnych korzeni. Temat ten wydaje się szczególnie warty badań, ponieważ w Niemczech żyje wiele osób z doświadczeniem migracyjnym, które często konfrontowane są z pytaniami dotyczącymi tożsamości.Praca podzielona jest na trzy rozdziały. W pierwszym rozdziale uwaga skupiona jest na samym autorze. Zostanie zbadane, jaki wpływ na jego rozwój osobisty i drogę literacką miała ucieczka z byłej Jugosławii. W tym kontekście przedstawiony zostanie również krótki przegląd wojny jugosłowiańskiej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem jej przyczyn, przebiegu i skutków.Drugi rozdział poświęcony jest literaturze migracyjnej. W centrum rozważań znajdują się tu przede wszystkim zagadnienia tożsamości i języka, które odgrywają kluczową rolę w tym dyskursie literackim.Najobszerniejszy, trzeci rozdział stanowi analizę powieści „Herkunft”. Omówiona zostanie nie tylko struktura i narracja tekstu, lecz przede wszystkim przeanalizowane zostaną główne aspekty istotne w kontekście poszukiwania własnych korzeni. Celem jest ukazanie, że tożsamość składa się z wielu indywidualnych, kulturowych i biograficznych komponentów, a poznanie własnego pochodzenia często jest wynikiem długiego i skomplikowanego procesu. Ponadto zostanie wykazane, że tożsamość nie jest stanem statycznym ani jednoznacznie definiowalnym, lecz należy ją postrzegać jako zmienny i dynamiczny element własnego „ja”. Szczególnie podkreślone zostaną trudności i sprzeczności towarzyszące indywidualnemu poszukiwaniu tożsamości.

This thesis examines the autofictional and autobiographical novel „Herkunft“ by Saša Stanišić. This paper aims to analyze the elements that shape a person’s origin and explore the complexities of searching for one’s roots. This topic is particularly relevant in the German context, where a significant portion of the population has a migration background and often faces an identity crisis, torn between identifying with the host country and maintaining connection to their country of origin. The thesis is structured into three chapters. The first chapter examines how the author’s experience of fleeing his homeland shaped his literary career. In this context, the Yugoslav Wars will also be briefly addressed, including their causes, progression, and consequences. The second chapter briefly explores contemporary German migrant literature, with particular attention given to the question of identity and the role of language in the works of migrant authors. The third and central chapter provides an in-depth analysis of the novel. This includes an examination of its narrative structure as well as an exploration of the various factors essential to the search for identity. The chapter demonstrates that identity is shaped by multiple elements and that recognition of one’s identity is the result of a long and complex journey into one’s origins. Furthermore, it seeks to show that identity is not a fixed or clearly defined construct, but rather a constantly evolving part of the self. Ulitimately, the novel highlights the challenges and complexities of exploring one’s identity.

Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich mit dem autofiktionalen und autobiografischen Roman „Herkunft“ von Saša Stanišić. Ziel dieser Untersuchung ist es, die vielfältigen Elemente zu analysieren, die das Konzept der Herkunft einer Person ausmachen, und zugleich die Komplexität der Suche nach den eigenen Wurzeln aufzuzeigen. Dieses Thema erscheint besonders forschungswürdig, da in Deutschland zahlreiche Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund leben, die häufig mit Fragen der Identität konfrontiert sind.Die Arbeit gliedert sich in drei Kapitel. Im ersten Kapitel steht der Autor selbst im Fokus. Es wird untersucht, welchen Einfluss seine Flucht aus dem ehemaligen Jugoslawien auf seine persönliche Entwicklung sowie auf seine literarische Laufbahn hatte. In diesem Zusammenhang wird auch ein kurzer Überblick über den Jugoslawienkrieg gegeben, bei dem insbesondere dessen Ursachen, Verlauf und Nachwirkungen skizziert werden.Das zweite Kapitel widmet sich der Migrantenliteratur. Im Zentrum stehen hier vor allem Fragen nach Identität und Sprache, die in diesem literarischen Diskurs eine zentrale Rolle einnehmen.Das dritte und umfangreichste Kapitel stellt die Analyse des Romans „Herkunft“ dar. Dabei werden nicht nur Aufbau und narrative Struktur des Textes erläutert, sondern vor allem die zentralen Aspekte untersucht, die für die Suche nach den eigenen Wurzeln von Bedeutung sind. Ziel ist es, aufzuzeigen, dass Identität aus einer Vielzahl individueller, kultureller und biografischer Komponenten besteht und die Erkenntnis der eigenen Herkunft oftmals das Ergebnis eines langen, komplexen Prozesses ist. Darüber hinaus wird deutlich, dass Identität kein statischer oder eindeutig definierbarer Zustand ist, sondern sich als wandelbares und dynamisches Element des Selbst begreifen lässt. Insbesondere soll auf die Schwierigkeiten hingewiesen werden, die mit der individuellen Identitätssuche einhergehen.
