Inflation and consumption - the impact of price increases on household spending

Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie wpływu inflacji na kształtowanie się wydatków gospodarstw domowych. W części teoretycznej omówione zostały zagadnienia takie jak pojęcie inflacji, jej rodzaje i mierniki oraz wpływ na społeczeństwo, ale również pojęcie gospodarstwa domowego oraz konsumpcji. W części empirycznej natomiast przedstawiono wyniki badań, których głównym celem było zbadanie zmiany struktury wydatków gospodarstw domowych na obszarze całego kraju w podstawowych kategoriach oraz w kategorii dóbr luksusowych. Podmiotami wybranymi do badań zostały gospodarstwa domowe w Polsce oraz w województwie małopolskim oraz śląskim. Proces badawczy zrealizowano przy zastosowaniu następujących metod i narzędzi badawczych: analiza zgromadzonych danych dostępnych ze źródeł GUSu oraz NBP, analiza porównawcza na podstawie danych z obu województw. Jako główne źródła danych empirycznych wykorzystano dane statystyczne dotyczące inflacji, publikacje, artykuły naukowe, dane o wydatkach gospodarstw domowych oraz poziom cen. Na podstawie wyników przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono, że inflacja miała wpływ na wydatki gospodarstw domowych w latach 2019-2023, powodując zmiany w strukturze wydatków, zwiększając zapotrzebowanie na dobra podstawowe, zaś zmniejszając na dobra luksusowe.

The aim of this work is to examine the impact of inflation on the development of household expenditure. The theoretical part discusses issues such as the concept of inflation, its types and measures, and its impact on society, as well as the concept of household and consumption. The empirical part presents the results of research, the main goal of which was to examine the change in the structure of household expenditure throughout the country in basic categories and in the category of luxury goods. The entities selected for the research were households in Poland and in the Małopolska and Silesian voivodeships. The research process was carried out using the following research methods and tools: analysis of collected data available from the Central Statistical Office and the National Bank of Poland sources, comparative analysis based on data from both voivodeships. Statistical data on inflation, publications, scientific articles, data on household expenditure and the price level were used as the main sources of empirical data. Based on the results of the conducted research, it was found that inflation had an impact on household expenditure in the years 2019-2023, causing changes in the structure of expenditure, increasing the demand for basic goods and reducing the demand for luxury goods.
