This chapter is composed of a series of personal fragments (and microstories), memories of three Polish game researchers investigating the country's game culture, participants of the research project on Polish game culture (research grant funded by Polish Science Centre). While the project itself demands a distanced and objectivised view on our shared background, here we aim to present our background, to highlight the development of both Polish gaming scene and game studies as an academic discipline. While working the same project at the same institution: the Game Research Centre at Faculty of Polish Studies of Jagiellonian University in Kraków, numerous differences: age, gender and social background will allow us to utilize our personal stories to map out the raise and change of the Polish game culture during the period of so-called Transformation: the introduction of the free-market economy and Western democracy in post-Soviet Poland.
