Outdoor sculpture of the 1960s and 1970s in protection systems : insights from the Małopolska region's perspective

W kontekście dziedzictwa artystycznego okresu powojennego w Polsce lata 60. i 70. XX wieku wyróżniają się zarówno dominującymi formami dzieł, jak i uwarunkowaniami historyczno-organizacyjnymi twórczości plastycznej. Wśród różnorodnej twórczości tej epoki rzeźby plenerowe zajmują szczególne miejsce. Łączą one społeczno-polityczne zaangażowanie państwa i poszukiwanie nowych środków ekspresji środowiska artystycznego. Obiekty te wyróżnia wartość artystyczna, historyczna i naukowa. Upływ czasu sprawia, że te realizacje można lokować w sferze potencjalnego zainteresowania systemu ochrony zabytków. Pod względem zarówno stylowo-formalnym, jak i genezy powstania omawiane dzieła są bez wątpienia świadectwami minionej epoki. Celem artykułu jest zasygnalizowanie różnorodności i bogactwa rzeźby plenerowej w Małopolsce, rozważenie stanu rozpoznania zasobu, a także określenie relacji tej kategorii dzieł z systemami ochrony dziedzictwa kulturowego w Polsce. Źródłem analiz są dokumenty konserwatorskie oraz przegląd literatury i przekazów medialnych. Wycinkowy problem rzeźby plenerowej staje się jednocześnie inspiracją do namysłu nad istotą obiektów zabytkowych i procesów zachodzących obecnie w polskim systemie ochrony zabytków.

With regard to the artistic heritage of the post-war period in Poland, the 1960s and 1970s are characterized by both the prevailing forms of artistic production and the historical and organizational conditions of the visual arts, with outdoor sculptures occupying a special place. Such works combine the socio-political involvement of the state with the search for new means of expression by the artistic community. These objects are distinguished by their artistic, historical and academic value. With the passage of time, they have come within the sphere of the potential interests of the heritage protection system. In terms of both style and form, as well as the context of their creation, the works in question are undoubtedly testimonies of a bygone era. The objective of this article is to highlight the diversity and richness of outdoor sculpture in the Małopolska region, to examine the extent to which this resource is recognized, and to define the relationship between this category of works of art and the regulatory framework for cultural heritage protection in Poland. The sources for the analyses are conservation documents and a review of literature and media coverage. At the same time, the specific problem of outdoor sculpture provides an opportunity for reflection on the significance of monumental objects and the processes currently taking place in the Polish system of monument protection.
