The cognitive value of hallucinations

Tekst proponuje rewizję tradycyjnego paradygmatu użycia pojęcia halucynacji w kontekście badań nad szamanizmem w społecznościach tradycyjnych oraz w odniesieniu do możliwego kształtu paleo-religii. W oparciu o badania nad percepcją podprogową oraz synestetyczną i symboliczną transformacją jej zawartości do postaci treści marzeń sennych i halucynacji wskazano na problematyczny charakter ujmowania tych ostatnich jako błędnych percepcji. Informacja dana w kanale podprogowym - jako taka nieuświadamiana - może zostać uświadomiona poprzez techniki świadomego śnienia lub intencjonalnego wchodzenia w doświadczenia halucynacyjne różnorakiej proweniencji. Autor wskazuje na konieczność dodatkowych badań z tej nowej i teoretycznie interesującej perspektywie.

The text proposes a revision of the traditional paradigm of the use of the concept of hallucinations in the context of research on shamanism in traditional societies and in relation to the possible shape of paleo-religion. Based on research on subliminal perception and the synesthetic and symbolic transformation of its content into the form of dream content and hallucinations, the problematic nature of perceiving the latter as erroneous perceptions has been indicated. The information given in the subliminal channel - as such unconscious - can be made aware through techniques of lucid dreaming or intentional entering into hallucinatory experiences of various provenance. The author points to the need for additional research from this new and theoretically interesting perspective.
