Mieczysław Potocki w latach 1864-1878 pełnił funkcję c.k. konserwatora budowli i pomników starożytnych Galicji Wschodniej. Mimo braku funduszy i rozbudowanego aparatu urzędniczego, z niewielką grupą miłośników dziejów, rozpoczął akcję inwentaryzacji, restauracji i ochrony zabytków dawnego województwa ruskiego Rzeczypospolitej. Wśród nich były również zabytki sztuki cerkiewnej. W artykule omówione zostały poglądy Potockiego na sztukę bizantyńską i ruską oraz wskazane dzieła cerkiewne, które otoczył konserwatorską opieką.

Between 1864 and 1878, Mieczysław Potocki served as the Imperial-Royal Conservator of Buildings and Ancient Monuments in Eastern Galicia. Despite limited funding and a small administrative apparatus, he began an effort to inventory, restore, and protect the monuments of the former Ruthenian Voivodeship of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, with the help of a small group of history enthusiasts. Among these monuments were also works of Eastern Orthodox (church) art. The article discusses Potocki's views on Byzantine and Ruthenian art and identifies the church works he took under his conservation care.
